Stillness is that space between breaths where there is peace and possibility.

On a clear summer morning about a decade ago I was wading up to my knees in cool, clear, Atlantic waters.   All of a sudden, I became aware that there was stillness, emerging from a breath, or from a miniscule pause in the rhythm of the water as the tide shifted.   That was a pivotal moment for me as I fully embodied the experience of stillness in the pause of the tide’s return.

Inside that microcosmic event was hidden the secret of possibility. This face to face encounter with stillness was, I speculate, what quantum physicists call the “gap” between particles and waves…the stuff of which the universe is apparently assembled.     And in that space, that “gap,"  lies infinite possibility. Uninhibited, not tampered with, out of consciousness, pure infinite possibility.

Like most of today’s spiritually minded people, I look forward to this Winter Solstice…one of the most anticipated planetary events in generations.   The moment of Solstice this year is 11:12, Universal Time, on December 21, for those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere…. the time at which the Sun is at its southernmost point in the sky. Visionaries, mystics, shamans and astrologers acknowledge that there are unique energies accompanying this particular 2012 Solstice and much has been written on this subject in highly respected journals and publications.

As I approach this day of Solstice I wonder if, like with the tide, there is a “gap”, a breath, or an immeasurable pause at the moment of the Winter Solstice as the Sun turns her beautiful face toward Earth one more time…..and in that pause, is there a stillness where we might experience the full measure of Peace on Earth?   My toes are reaching out to wade into the waters of the Universe where I will open myself fully to this possibility.   Will you join me there?
